Graphic Traffic News #92
More generative art tools, BBC News camera filming experience (free), Zoom cartoons, Midjourney prompt ideas, charts in Canva, and the Graphic Traffic course returns.
Welcome to Graphic Traffic News, your guide to free/low cost image and video tools, tips and resources to help you stand out online.
We’ve seen the largest surge to date in new trial sign-ups this week, so thank you! Much of it is down to the fantastic Wonder Tools by Jeremy Caplan here on Substack. Thank you Jeremy! And do sign up to his newsletter too - he often features image and video tools.
BBC news camera experience
Julie Ritson is sharing her extensive experience as a BBC News camerawoman in a free webinar.

This took off very fast! She got 3,000 sign-ups, so you can’t attend the live course, but it is being recorded so you needn’t miss out.
Graphic Traffic - the course - returns
This newsletter developed from a training course, Graphic Traffic, which I have been running across the UK, internationally and online, for 11 or 12 years. I was coming across more and more tools, ideas and opportunities as I updated the course each time, so this was a way of sharing them.
I’m running the course online again on 28 February. Find out more and how to book.
As a reader of this newsletter you’re welcome to a 10% discount on any of the tickets. Just quote ‘seeninthemag’.
Vote for your favourite image and video tools
If you’ve discovered a useful image or video tool from this newsletter, then do consider voting for them in Product Hunt’s Golden Kitty Awards 2022 (for products that launched in 2022).
I was pleased to see mmhmm 2.0 (my favourite video app after discovering it during lockdown in 2020), Xnapper, and of course ChatGPT (you know it can create useful prompts for generative image tools such as Midjourney and the like) listed there, so they got my vote, plus plenty of other new tools.
What will you vote for?
While you’re there, do explore other new image and video tools.
Zoom cartoons
Zoom now lets you appear as a cartoon version of yourself - should you wish to.
It’s one of a range of new functions that Zoom is introducing, including a clearer presentation of the various third-party apps that are available to users.

The customisable animations of your appearance mirror your movements and facial expressions, “allowing you to present yourself dynamically without needing to be on video and providing a more engaging alternative to static profile pictures”.
They are currently available only to beta users, so that is people on a paid account. Further customisations are promised.
The function follows the introduction in March 2022 of animal face avatars.
