Graphic Traffic News #82
Screenshots plus coloured borders stand out, YouTube handles are coming, paper Post-Its for Teams, 100,000 icons, drag & drop images on iOS, and more.
Welcome to Graphic Traffic News, and the latest instalment of free/low-cost video and image tools and ideas to help you, your charity or your small biz stand out.
We’re glad so many of you enjoyed the Bayeux Tapestry tool last week. So, we’ll start with another new find - and include it in the intro so even those of you on the free trial get to learn about it. The simplicity and colourful impact of Xnapper combine to make it a delightful tool.
Screenshots with borders
Xnapper is one of those tools that you suddenly spot being used a lot. It’s a screenshot tool that places the screenshot on a coloured or gradient background.
The result, which you can tweak in several ways (colour, drop-shadow, padding etc) can then be exported in almost any social media channel size. It can even be dragged from Xnapper directly into e.g. Twitter. No save as… and then uploading, although you can take that approach.
It sounds too simple to bother with, but I find myself using it almost every day, to share content on Twitter and LinkedIn in particular.
It has a number of functions that I find particularly useful, including an option to add your own Twitter handle or other URL to indicate you as the source. And a redact function to obscure personal data like emails (which it recognises automatically).
Its automatic balance feature, to align the screenshot on its background perfectly, is also a valuable timesaver.
I’ve seen it used most often in list threads on Twitter, where people share 10, 12 or 15 etc related tips or resources.
It is available for Mac and iOS (beta). It’s free, but I have paid for a licence for it as I see it as another useful addition for my day-to-day tools.
